Emergency Response System for All Local Fire Departments Switched from 14th to 16th
The Ulsan Fire Department will enter special alert duty from May 14 to 16 in preparation for 'Buddha's Birthday,' a day when traditional lanterns and candles are widely used.
On the 9th at 4 p.m., a situation briefing meeting to review the implementation of the special alert duty will be held at the Fire Department Operations Room in the 2nd Annex of Ulsan City Hall, attended by 12 people including the Fire Department and frontline fire station 119 Disaster Response Division chiefs.
This special alert duty will be carried out by switching to an emergency response system to prepare for fire risks associated with handling fire sources such as lanterns and candles, as well as safety accidents at major temples expected to attract large crowds.
Focusing on 16 temples where the Buddha's Birthday ceremony will be held, eight fire trucks and about 170 firefighting personnel, including volunteer firefighters, will be deployed on-site to prepare for safety accidents at the event venues.
Lee Jae-sun, head of the Ulsan Fire Department, said, "Since Buddha's Birthday involves the use of lanterns and candles and large gatherings, immediate on-site response is crucial in case of emergencies," adding, "We will also prepare for forest fires by deploying firefighting equipment on-site and focus on special alert duty to ensure the event concludes safely."
