Nowon District Mayor Oh Seung-rok Attends 'Longevity Senior Celebration' in Commemoration of Parents' Day

On the 8th at 10:30 AM, Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, attended the ‘Longevity Senior Celebration’ held in the main auditorium on the 2nd floor of Nowon-gu Office in Seoul.

The ‘Longevity Senior Celebration’ was first held in 2019 to celebrate the longevity of seniors and to encourage the efforts of their children who have cared for them.

As of the end of March 2024 based on resident registration, about 97,000 seniors, accounting for 19.6% of the population, reside in Nowon-gu. Accordingly, the district is also focusing on communication to ensure that various support projects targeting them operate effectively.

The district is implementing various projects for seniors, including jobs, health, care, and culture, such as the ‘65+ Senior Welfare Benefits Briefing’ and the ‘Senior Call Center,’ and uniquely in Seoul, it has hosted a celebration wishing for the healthy longevity of elderly seniors.

On this day, about 150 people attended, including five centenarian seniors and their families, 130 other seniors, Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, members of the National Assembly, and city and district council members.

The event was organized by the Nowon-gu branch of the Korea Senior Citizens Association and proceeded in the order of a pre-event performance, seniors’ entrance and family introduction, guest introduction, flower offering, reading of the healthy longevity prayer, offering of ceremonial wine, three bows, cake cutting, screening of congratulatory videos from families of centenarian seniors, and performances.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “I once again thank you for the sacrifices made over 100 years,” and added, “We will continue to support seniors through policies in various fields such as jobs, leisure, and welfare to make Nowon a place where seniors can live happily for a long time.”
