On the afternoon of the 8th, the Democratic Party's Basic Society Committee held a 'National Assembly Basic Society Policy Meeting' at the National Assembly Members' Office Building in Yeouido, Seoul. Attending the meeting were six-term elected representative Choo Mi-ae and lawmakers Jo Jung-sik and Woo Won-shik, who will be serving their fifth term. Five-term lawmaker Jung Sung-ho, who officially declared his candidacy for Speaker that afternoon, did not attend.

Lawmaker Woo said, "A basic society is the path of reform and livelihood that the Democratic Party is preparing to open the future of the Republic of Korea," adding, "The next stage of Korea's prosperity is to guarantee a prosperous life for the people based on economic basic rights." He also emphasized, "The Democratic Party in the 22nd National Assembly will do its best for the people's basic rights guaranteed by the Constitution and for the realization of 'Basic Society 2050.' Let's agenda specific policies and realize them together through corresponding legislative policies."

Representative Choo said, "During the presidential candidate primaries, I advocated for rent reform," adding, "Rent reform and the basic income series must be pursued and developed simultaneously." She continued, "Inequality is becoming a disaster for humanity," explaining, "Inequality does not remain static if left unattended; it seems to deepen exponentially. We urgently need prescriptions to alleviate inequality."

Lawmaker Jo said, "This National Assembly starts with the heavy public mandate to restore a collapsing country and take responsibility for the people's lives," adding, "A basic society is a key pledge of Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung, the primary agenda to protect and take responsibility for the people's lives, and a discourse and practical task to reconstruct our society's basic rights for universal rights of the people and socially vulnerable groups."

The Democratic Party Election Commission accepted registrations for Speaker candidates until 6 p.m. that day and will hold the Speaker election on the 16th. Meanwhile, Park Ji-won, who had been considering running for Speaker, announced his decision not to run that day.
