Spring Seasonal Products Up to 50% Off
Wild Seasonal Flatfish Special Price in the 10,000 Won Range
Discounts on Chamoe and Fresh Onions Too
Emart announced on the 9th that it will hold a sale offering up to 50% off seasonal agricultural and marine products such as wild flatfish, chamoe melon, and new onions. The event period is from the 10th to the 16th of this month.
Emart set the event period in May because household spending increases during Family Month. Since May this year includes holidays at the beginning of the month as well as commemorative days such as Children's Day and Parents' Day, spending is expected to rise, so Emart planned this special sale focusing on seasonal products to help customers shop economically.
Emart is holding a wild flatfish sale limited to May, when the annual catch volume is most stable. For the first time this year, Emart is collaborating with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to offer a half-price discount on all wild flatfish sashimi products (domestic). Wild flatfish caught in May, the peak season, weigh on average 3 to 5 kg per fish, which is up to twice as large as farmed flatfish, and according to Emart, they also have superior taste. However, assorted sashimi and farmed flatfish are excluded from the discount.
The representative product, 'Wild Flatfish Sashimi Pack (around 360g),' is sold at 17,980 KRW during the event, which is a 50% discount from the regular price of 35,960 KRW when Shinsegae Points are used. Wild flatfish seasoned sashimi and cold raw fish soup are also offered at half price, 14,990 KRW per pack, down from the regular price of 29,980 KRW with Shinsegae Points.
In addition to seafood, seasonal chamoe melon and new onions are also on special sale. The Seongju chamoe melon pack containing 3 to 6 pieces is sold for 8,800 KRW during the event, a 4,000 KRW discount from the regular price of 12,800 KRW when Shinsegae Points are used. Through this event, customers can purchase these products at prices up to about 32% cheaper than last month. For the first time this year, Emart registered a chamoe buyer as a middleman at the chamoe auction market in Seongju, Gyeongbuk, the main production area, and directly participated in the auction, reducing intermediate distribution steps.
Domestic new onions in 1.8 kg packs are sold at 2,980 KRW during the event. Emart pre-contracted 700 tons of greenhouse and open-field grown onions from Hapcheon in Gyeongnam, Goheung in Jeonnam, and Gochang in Jeonbuk to coincide with the new onion harvest period. According to the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation's Agricultural Products Distribution Information System (KAMIS), the average retail price of onions (standard grade) in April this year was 2,662 KRW per kilogram. Emart's event price for new onions is about 38% cheaper than this.
Popular deli products are also on sale. The representative products include 'Boneless Chicken (pack),' sold at 7,980 KRW during the event, a 2,000 KRW discount from the regular price of 9,980 KRW when Shinsegae Points are used, and the 'Sushi e-Best Assorted Sushi (pack)' consisting of 18 pieces, sold at 14,980 KRW during the event, a 3,000 KRW discount from the regular price of 17,980 KRW with Shinsegae Points.
Hwang Woon-gi, Head of Emart's Product Division, said, "We planned this event with the most delicious representative seasonal agricultural and marine products in May, such as wild flatfish and fresh chamoe melon," adding, "We hope customers who had high household expenses due to May holidays and various commemorative days will shop economically at Emart this week."
