8th in Seoul '12th Korea-China Radio Bureau Chiefs Meeting'
Discussed key WRC-27 agenda including 6G
"Requesting China's support for Korea's selection as APG chair"
A director-level meeting on radio communication between Korea and China was held in Seoul. The two countries discussed key agenda items for the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-27), scheduled to be held in 2027, including 6G. The WRC, hosted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), is a conference that decides important matters regarding global frequency allocation and radiocommunication, held every four years.

On the 8th, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it held the '12th Korea-China Radio Communication Directors' Meeting' in Seoul. The meeting was attended by Choi Byung-taek, Director of the Radio Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Science and ICT, and Qi Feng, Counselor of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, as representatives.
At the meeting, discussions were held on major agenda items to be discussed at WRC-27, such as next-generation frequencies including 6G, communication policies between low Earth orbit satellites and smartphones. Korea requested China’s support to have domestic radio experts selected as chairpersons at the first APG-27 (Asia-Pacific Regional WRC Preparatory Group) meeting to be held in China next month. APG-27 is a meeting for the 38 Asia-Pacific countries to establish a joint position on the WRC-27 agenda.
In addition, the two countries exchanged opinions on each country’s mobile communication frequency policies, the current status of frequency interference between the two countries, and the need for international cooperation related to radio communications.
Following China, on the 22nd, the '5th Korea-Japan Radio Communication Directors' Meeting' is scheduled to be held, represented by Naohiko Ogihara, Director of the Radio Bureau of Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. At this meeting, cooperation plans regarding mobile communication frequency policies of both countries, WRC-27 agenda, and advancement to APG chair positions will also be discussed.
Director Choi said, "Cooperation with neighboring countries Japan and China is more important than anything else for efficient and stable radio utilization and management," adding, "This director-level meeting with China was a good opportunity to strengthen the radio cooperation system between the two countries."
