On the 7th (local time), local media including Australian ABC News reported that Yarra Valley Grammar School in Ringwood, Melbourne, recently expelled two key male students who ranked female students based on their appearance. Last week, the school suspended the male students involved in the ranking chart. The school recognized the seriousness of the matter and reported it to the police.

Principal Mark Merry explained in a letter to parents on the day, "Although the investigation is still ongoing, the two male students have been expelled and can no longer be enrolled," adding, "Male students with lesser involvement in this issue have also been disciplined." He continued, "Many students became targets of cruel and highly offensive online posts, causing great harm to them and their families and distress to their friends," and asked for understanding, saying, "The investigation into this matter is complex, time-consuming, and cannot be rushed." He added, "We will review all programs to ensure that everyone's dignity is respected."

Ranking of Female Students' Photos Spreads on SNS... Criticism from State Premier and Education Minister

Recently, a captured photo of the ranking chart was shared online, sparking controversy. It included six 'grades' assigned to female students' photos, such as 'Wife Material,' 'Cutie,' 'Average,' and 'Not Even Rapeable.' The school acknowledged the issue on the 1st and began an investigation, identifying six male students responsible for the incident. Among them, two main perpetrators were expelled, and the others were suspended.

As the controversy grew, even the federal Education Minister and the state Premier stepped in. Federal Education Minister Jason Clare criticized the incident as "disgusting and horrific." Victoria Premier Jacinta Allan said, "I was deeply shocked to see such a disgraceful list," emphasizing, "This is not something to be dismissed as a joke." She continued, "Respect for women must be a top priority in every classroom, every home, and every part of our community," raising her voice, "Because too many women are exposed to violence and losing their lives."

Meanwhile, the school is a private institution where students pay an annual tuition of 30,000 Australian dollars (approximately 27 million Korean won). The grade involved in the incident is Year 11, equivalent to the second year of high school in Korea.
