Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Small School Revitalization Project ... Donghae Elementary Selected

Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 8th that Donghae Elementary School has been selected for this year’s Gyeongnam Small School Revitalization Project.

With this, Goseong-gun has had the honor of being selected for the contest three consecutive times, following Yeong-o Elementary School in 2020 and Samsan Elementary School in 2022.

This contest project supports households with elementary school children who have relocated and small schools facing extinction by providing distinctive educational programs through collaboration among Gyeongnam Province, Gyeongnam Office of Education, and Goseong-gun. In cooperation with Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), the project plans to build ▲10 customized public rental housing units reflecting migrant demand ▲improvement projects for residential conditions near Donghae Elementary School ▲vacant house renovation projects for migrants.

In particular, the Donghae-myeon area is home to about 20 shipbuilding-related companies such as SK Ocean Plant and EK Heavy Industries, as well as the Yangchon-Yongjeong General Industrial Complex, which recently applied to become Gyeongnam’s first Opportunity Development Zone. This is expected to have a significant synergistic effect on population inflow and the local economy through the Small School Revitalization Project.

To ensure smooth project implementation, Goseong-gun plans to form a project promotion committee centered on residents and school officials to discuss all related matters, minimize inconvenience to residents caused by construction, and actively support harmony between existing residents and migrants through various community programs.

Additionally, Donghae Elementary School plans to operate diverse and distinctive educational programs through student-friendly space innovations such as ▲augmented reality (AR) sports experience facilities ▲golf practice range ▲nature-friendly outdoor play facilities ▲a complex library space linked to the curriculum.

County Governor Lee Sang-geun said, “We are pleased that Goseong-gun has been selected for the Small School Revitalization Project contest for three consecutive times,” and added, “Donghae Elementary School, residents of Donghae-myeon, and Goseong-gun will work closely together to ensure the project proceeds smoothly, and we will provide our utmost support.”
