"Lawyer Salary 940,000 Won... Adult Broadcast Earns 3,760,000 Won"
Netizens Debate "Status Declines" vs "Personal Freedom"
A female lawyer in China has become a hot topic after news spread that she started adult broadcasting due to low salary. Currently, she earns more than four times her income from working as a lawyer by doing adult broadcasts.

On the 7th (local time), Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported the story of Xiao Bingxin (25), who works as a lawyer in Shanghai and runs an adult broadcast called "Edgeball" as a side job. Edgeball is a term derived from table tennis, referring to live broadcasts that include sexually suggestive content.
Xiao Bingxin passed one of the most difficult exams in China, the bar exam, at the end of 2021. In 2022, she joined a law firm in Shanghai with a monthly salary of 4,500 yuan (approximately 849,060 KRW), entering the legal profession. Later, as a full-time lawyer, her salary increased to 5,500 yuan (approximately 1,037,905 KRW) per month. However, she explained that the reason she started adult broadcasting alongside her main job was "because of lack of money." Xiao Bingxin said, "I earn about 940,000 KRW from being a lawyer, but I can make around 3,760,000 KRW from broadcasting. Without live broadcasts, I cannot live in Shanghai." She added, "I receive a salary just over 1 million KRW, but after paying rent, there is almost no money left."
Over the past year, Xiao Bingxin has been broadcasting on various platforms. Her content includes dancing in sexy outfits and providing legal consultations to viewers in real time. Her followers have surged from 10,000 initially to 600,000 currently.

After news of Xiao Bingxin’s adult broadcasts became known, some have viewed it unfavorably. Xiao Bingxin claimed, "The Shanghai Lawyers Association and the law firm I currently work for are trying to stop my broadcasts because they believe I am damaging the dignity of lawyers." The Lawyers Association stated that they are "currently verifying" her claims. As the controversy grew, Xiao Bingxin has deleted most of her videos, but her broadcast account remains active.
Local netizens who learned about this story expressed negative reactions such as, "It’s a strange society where someone doing adult broadcasts earns more than a lawyer," "No matter what, adult broadcasting is not appropriate," "I want to ask if she feels any self-loathing for doing adult broadcasts," "Money is just an excuse," and "It lowers the prestige of lawyers."
On the other hand, some netizens responded with comments like, "There is no law prohibiting lawyers from broadcasting," "She started this because of financial difficulties, so I don’t understand why people criticize her," and "It’s important to live doing what you want to do."
