Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 8th that it will support educational activity expenses for children from low-income multicultural families.
The educational activity expense support project, implemented for the first time this year, provides children aged 7 to 18 (born between January 1, 2006, and December 31, 2017) from multicultural families with a standard median income of 100% or less who do not receive educational benefits (below 50% of median income) with card points to cover costs necessary for educational activities such as purchasing textbooks and using reading rooms.

The support amount is 400,000 KRW per year for elementary school students, 500,000 KRW per year for middle school students, and 600,000 KRW per year for high school students. Children from multicultural families who are not attending school can also receive benefits according to their age.
Applicants wishing to receive support must visit the Jeongeup City Family Center by September 30 with documents verifying their multicultural family status and a health insurance payment confirmation.
The city plans to provide points in July for applicants in May and June, in September for applicants in July and August, and in October for applicants in September.
Mayor Lee Hak-su said, “Through this educational activity expense support, we hope that children from low-income multicultural families will not give up on their studies and will become the foundation for growing into global talents,” adding, “We will continue to spare no effort to support multicultural children and youth so that they can grow into future talents.”
Meanwhile, the city provides various educational supports such as home education for multicultural children, language development support, and bilingual education support to help children from multicultural families adapt to school life and grow into global talents.
