The government is organizing a meeting to share the policy direction of the 2nd phase of the Metropolitan Area Express Railroad (GTX) with the industry, including the establishment of GTX-D, E, and F lines and the extension of A, B, and C lines.

On the 9th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will hold an industry meeting attended by about 20 member companies of the SOC forum, including construction companies such as Samsung C&T, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, GS Engineering & Construction, Daewoo Engineering & Construction; design firms such as Sambo Engineering, Dohwa ENG, Dongmyung Engineering; and asset management and financial institutions such as Woori Asset Management and Korea Development Bank. Through this meeting, the government will broadly collect various opinions on measures to revitalize private investment in GTX and ways to incorporate private sector creativity into GTX-D, E, and F lines.

The 2nd phase GTX project is currently undergoing procedures to be reflected in the 5th National Railway Network Plan to be established in 2025. Since the GTX-A, B, and C projects are also being smoothly promoted as private investment projects, the government plans to closely discuss with the industry ways to activate SOC investment using private funds. If there are regulations hindering private investment in GTX, solutions will be prepared to resolve them, aiming to accelerate the progress of the 2nd phase GTX project.

After announcing the 2nd phase GTX promotion plan, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport held 'visiting relay briefings' by local government regions where GTX lines are planned. So far, they have met with officials from a total of 8 local governments in the 1st phase covering northwestern Gyeonggi and Incheon regions, 16 local governments in the 2nd phase covering southern Gyeonggi and Chungcheong regions, and 10 local governments in the 3rd phase covering northeastern Gyeonggi region.

Yoon Jin-hwan, Director of the Railway Bureau at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, “Since the announcement of the 2nd phase GTX, the industry has shown great interest in the project proposal methods, scope, and future schedule. Therefore, this meeting is expected to be an opportunity to directly hear and communicate field requests.” He added, “To quickly enjoy GTX services, private investment is essential. We will continue to communicate with the GTX-related industry and local governments after today’s meeting and proceed with follow-up procedures without delay to promote the GTX project at a rapid pace.”
