Jongno-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) is promoting the "2024 Childbirth Support Fund Project for Disabled Families" to improve the health and living stability of mothers and newborns in disabled families. The purpose is to alleviate the economic burden on disabled families, who incur higher costs during pregnancy and childbirth compared to non-disabled families.

In addition to the 1.2 million KRW childbirth support fund for disabled individuals funded by the national and city governments, Jongno-gu will provide additional childbirth support funds as part of its low birthrate response policy. The amount of support varies depending on the degree of disability of the newborn's father or mother. Families with severely disabled parents will receive 1.5 million KRW, while those with less severe disabilities will receive 1 million KRW. However, even if both parents are disabled, duplicate support will not be provided.

The eligible recipients are registered disabled families residing in Jongno-gu with their resident registration for at least 10 months prior to the childbirth date. Applications must be submitted within one year from the date of childbirth to receive support.

Applicants can visit their local community service center in person or submit the required documents online through Government24 or Bokjiro. There is also a convenient method to apply at the community service center by completing the integrated childbirth service application form after registering the birth, along with applications for childcare allowance and child allowance. The district office accepts applications year-round, verifies eligibility, decides on support, and disburses funds on the 25th of each month.

Jongno-gu stated, "We have decided to provide additional childbirth support funds to reduce the economic burden on disabled families, who require relatively higher childbirth expenses than non-disabled families. We will implement effective policies to create a child-rearing environment that is good for everyone, regardless of disability, and to improve the quality of life for residents from all walks of life."
