Residents, Local Artists, and Youth Culture Festival
Held at Gungsan Neighborhood Park and Magok Eoullim Park
A festival where the artistic spirit of Joseon Dynasty’s representative painter Gyeomjae Jeong Seon comes alive is coming. Gangseo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) announced on the 8th that the ‘8th Gyeomjae Culture and Arts Festival’ will be held on the 10th and 11th around Gungsan Neighborhood Park and Magok Eoullim Park.
The ‘Gyeomjae Culture and Arts Festival’ is a participatory cultural and arts festival to honor the artistic soul of Gyeomjae Jeong Seon, a symbol of Korean culture and arts and a master of true-view landscape painting, and to inherit his noble spirit. This year, under the slogan ‘Gyeomjae, Spreading Spring in Gangseo,’ various events enjoyable for children, adolescents, and adults will be held.
On the 10th at 1 PM, the opening ceremony marking the start of the festival at the Gyeomjae Jeong Seon Art Museum will take place along with the opening of a special exhibition. The ‘Flex Modern’ special exhibition, prepared to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the museum’s opening, features artists from ‘Sonamu,’ a Korean artists’ association in Paris, allowing visitors to appreciate works that freely cross the boundaries of different cultures. At 2 PM on the 3rd floor of the museum, an academic lecture titled ‘Gyeonggyo Myeongseungjeop, Boating from Dumoolmeori to Haengju’ will be held to explore Gyeomjae’s artistic world.
On the 11th, various events to fully enjoy the festival will be held, including the 19th Gyeomjae National Drawing Contest, a youth cultural festival, outdoor exhibitions, and experience zones. Starting at 10 AM, children and adolescents from across the country will showcase their skills by capturing the scenery of Gungsan, where Gyeomjae once strolled, on canvas using various techniques such as Korean painting, Western painting, and watercolor in the national drawing contest.
Applications can be made by visiting or calling the Gyeomjae Jeong Seon Art Museum by the 10th or online through the museum’s website. On-site registration on the day of the event is also possible.
The ‘Youth Cultural Festival’ will be held from 1:30 PM at Magok Eoullim Park. Various programs themed around Gyeomjae and Gangseo-gu, such as ‘Challenge! Gyeomjae OX Quiz’ and ‘Random Play Dance Contest’ with K-pop, will be available, along with performances by the male vocal group ‘La Classe’ and the K-pop dance team ‘Soul Diva.’
Throughout the venue, street exhibitions featuring various works such as the ‘2023 Gyeomjae National Drawing Contest Award-Winning Works Exhibition,’ ‘Baekiljang Award-Winning Calligraphy and Poetry Exhibition,’ and ‘Gyeomjae Calligraphy and Poetry Exhibition’ will be held.
District Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, “The Gyeomjae Culture and Arts Festival is a representative cultural and arts festival in the southwestern Seoul area created together by local artists, residents, and youth,” and added, “We hope everyone makes great memories at the Gyeomjae Culture and Arts Festival, where you can enjoy various cultural events and artworks.” For more details, please contact the Gangseo-gu Culture and Sports Division or the Gyeomjae Jeong Seon Art Museum.
