The Seoul Agro-Fisheries & Food Corporation (President Moon Young-pyo) held a celebration event on May 4th at the Seobu Fruit & Vegetable Auction Hall with the distributors of Gangseo Market to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the market's opening (Opening dates: Auction Market February 25, 2004, Market Wholesaler Market June 14 of the same year).
About 600 people, including Gangseo Market distributors and corporation employees, attended the event, which proceeded with watching a video on the 20-year history and changes of Gangseo Market, viewing a congratulatory video for the 20th anniversary, watching a congratulatory video from the Mayor of Seoul, awarding plaques of merit, appreciation plaques, and commendations, a greeting speech by President Moon Young-pyo, a commemorative speech by a distributor representative, and a ceremonial cutting of the 20th anniversary rice cake.
Following this, there was a unity singing contest among distributors, a congratulatory performance by invited singer Yoon Soo-hyun, an awards ceremony for the singing contest, and a lucky draw.
The 20-year history video of Gangseo Market shared the development process from Yeongdeungpo Market before the opening of Gangseo Market to the present after its opening, including ways to overcome difficult times such as the COVID-19 pandemic, celebrating the hard work over 20 years, and expressing the distributors’ will for communication and harmony for the future of Gangseo Market.
The 20th anniversary congratulatory video included footage of representatives of distributors from Gangseo Market and Garak Market, Kim Yoon-doo, Chairman of the Market Management Committee, Kim Yang-hwan, the first Gangseo Branch Manager, and Lee Yang-ja, President of the Seoul Gangseo-gu Saemaul Women's Association.
In particular, President Moon Young-pyo invited four senior distributors aged over 80 currently active in the field and presented each with a plaque of merit as a token of respect, expressing gratitude for their dedication and efforts.
Additionally, three local residents who actively participated in Gangseo Market’s sharing volunteer activities were invited and awarded appreciation plaques, and distributors who contributed to the development of Gangseo Market’s distribution were awarded Market Awards (8 people) and President’s Awards (22 people), respectively.
At the end of the first part of the event, the corporation president, Gangseo branch manager, and distributor representatives went on stage to perform a ceremonial cutting of the 3.2-meter-long 20th anniversary rice cake, emphasizing communication and harmony among distributors.
In the second part of the event, a total of 17 distributor teams participated in the singing contest, with five winners awarded, followed by a congratulatory performance by invited singer Yoon Soo-hyun and a lucky draw, concluding the commemorative event.
In his greeting, President Moon Young-pyo stated, “We all need to unite our strength and share the direction and vision for the future of wholesale markets, moving forward together to revitalize the wholesale market,” emphasizing the importance of communication above all and urging, “Let us take one step at a time without getting tired to secure competitiveness and revitalize Gangseo Market.”
