Park Young-woo, chairman of Daeyu Winia Group, who was indicted and detained on charges of wage arrears, has been additionally indicted after it was confirmed that he directly managed a Gwangju affiliate and withheld wages.
The Public Investigation Division of the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Myung-ok) indicted Park Young-woo, chairman of Daeyu Winia Group (69), and three former and current CEOs of Winia Electronics Manufacturing on the charge of withholding workers' wages amounting to 11.4 billion KRW (violation of the Labor Standards Act, etc.) on the 7th.
Previously, the Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office had indicted Chairman Park and former and current affiliate presidents on charges of withholding wages and retirement pay totaling 39.8 billion KRW for 738 workers belonging to another affiliate.
During the investigation of the Gwangju affiliate corporation, the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office confirmed that Chairman Park directly managed Winia Electronics Manufacturing through the group’s secretariat, leading to additional indictments. According to the prosecution, Park and others are accused of failing to pay wages and retirement benefits totaling 11.4 billion KRW to 251 workers based in Gwangju. It was found that during this period, the affected workers went unpaid for one and a half years, resulting in some becoming credit delinquents or suffering from financial hardship.
The Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office stated, "In accordance with the Supreme Prosecutors' Office's policy on 'Improving Work to Restore Damages from Wage Arrears,' we will conduct detention investigations of business owners who habitually withhold large sums of wages and strive for the prompt restoration of workers' damages."
