Anyone with three or more children, under 39 years old, and registered residents for over 3 years
Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 7th that it will provide university tuition support to reduce the educational expenses burden for families with multiple children.
The support is for families with multiple children where at least one parent has continuously resided in Haenam-gun for more than three years. Eligible recipients are children aged under 39 who are the third child or later.
Support is provided up to 1.5 million KRW per semester for a maximum of 8 semesters to students enrolled in domestic universities approved by the Minister of Education, excluding remote universities. If the eligible student receives other scholarships, the support will cover the actual amount paid by the student.
The tuition fees are prepaid to the respective universities after confirming with the Korea Student Aid Foundation and the universities whether there is any overlap in tuition support. Tuition fees already paid are refunded to families with multiple children by each university.
Applications for tuition support for the first semester of this year will be accepted until the 31st. Applicants must visit the town or township office and submit required documents such as the applicant’s ID and tuition payment certificate.
A county official stated, “We hope that university tuition support will help alleviate the financial burden on families with multiple children, even if only a little. We will continue to strive to create a child-rearing friendly environment by expanding various supports for families with multiple children.”
Meanwhile, last year Haenam-gun provided university tuition support amounting to 173 million KRW for 106 children from families with multiple children.
