Lee Jun-seok, leader of the Reform New Party, criticized the upcoming press conference marking President Yoon Suk-yeol's 2nd inauguration anniversary scheduled for the 9th, saying, "'Starting to change now' sounds like a typical New Year's resolution, like promising to 'go on a diet'."
On the 7th, Lee said on Channel A's Political Signal, "No one expects President Yoon to change; they expect it to be a short-lived effort," referring to the common phrase "three days' determination." Although President Yoon is taking steps to regain public support after the crushing defeat in the general election, the possibility of creating a significant impact is slim.
Lee assessed that the likelihood of President Yoon undergoing special investigations related to Chae Sang-byeong and First Lady Kim Keon-hee is low. He likened the situation to, "Kim Jong-un has no intention of giving up his nuclear weapons because giving them up means 'I die.'"
He added, "President Yoon has experienced special investigations himself. If I were a prosecutor, I would know what conclusion would be drawn based on my actions. It must be very unsettling."
Meanwhile, at the Reform New Party's Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that morning, Lee emphasized, "A moderate reshuffle of the Prime Minister and economic and industrial ministries is urgently needed," criticizing, "It has been almost a month since the Yoon Suk-yeol administration's election defeat, but aside from appointing the Chief Presidential Secretary and Senior Secretary for Political Affairs, there has been no personnel change that shows new inspiration or a will for change."
