Create Your Own Mo Flowerpot, Experience Traditional Rice Planting and Snail Release, and More Old Rural Culture Programs... Recruiting 15 Households on a First-Come, First-Served Basis from the 7th to the 10th... Participation Fee 1000 Won
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) will hold a traditional rice planting experience for elementary school students and their parents at Jungnang Happiness 1 Farm in Sinnye-dong on the 16th.
The district organized this event to provide children with an understanding of the growth process of rice plants through a traditional rice planting experience, which is difficult to encounter in the urban environment, and to offer a space for communication between parents and children.
The rice planting experience will be conducted over about an hour and a half and will include ▲learning about the growth process from rice plant to rice grain ▲making your own rice seedling pot ▲traditional hand rice planting ▲releasing freshwater snails for eco-friendly cultivation.
In the ‘Making Your Own Rice Seedling Pot’ activity, the pots that children make themselves are upcycled pots made by recycling ice cups (transparent plastic cups) commonly discarded at cafes. Upcycling refers to activities that add design and usability to recyclable materials to increase their value. This helps children directly experience upcycling and develop environmental awareness.
Also, through the traditional hand rice planting experience using mud rows to plant rice seedlings by hand, participants will experience old rural culture and have a time to communicate and heal together with their parents and children.
Furthermore, by releasing freshwater snails that feed on weeds, pests, and pest eggs to aid eco-friendly cultivation, participants will have time to recognize the importance of the paddy field ecosystem and the environment.
The traditional rice planting experience will recruit participants on a first-come, first-served basis from the 7th to the 10th on the Jungnang-gu Office website. The recruitment target is 15 households of elementary school students and their parents. There is a participation fee of 1,000 KRW per student.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “I hope children naturally learn about paddy fields and rice plants through the traditional rice planting experience, feel the preciousness of life and nature by releasing freshwater snails, and have a meaningful time learning about the value of the ecosystem. We will continue to do our best to realize urban agriculture that helps children get closer to nature and contributes to healthy emotional development.”
