Controversy Over Defects in Newly Built Apartment Scheduled for Move-in at the End of This Month
Netizens: "Isn't This Going Too Far?"
At a newly constructed apartment in Muan, Jeonnam, scheduled for occupancy at the end of this month, numerous defects including warped exterior walls have been discovered, sparking controversy.
On the 6th, an online community 'BobaeDream' posted an article titled "A Newly Built Apartment with Unprecedented Defects." The author, Mr. A, shared multiple photos and expressed concern, saying, "The warped exterior walls are visible at a glance. I wonder if everyone will die if an earthquake occurs."
The photos revealed by Mr. A show what appears to be warped exterior walls. He also posted interior photos, pointing out, "The tile and wall lines are not vertically or horizontally aligned, it's a mess." He added, "The top floor outdoor unit slab is already sinking," and "The concrete frame is warped."
Mr. A posted photos showing sloppy bathroom construction and gaps between windows and floors. Upon seeing the precariously installed elevator position indicator, he sarcastically remarked, "They did whatever they wanted without restraint."
Additionally, graffiti believed to have been made by construction workers was found inside the apartment. Broken tiles were also visible on various stairs. Mr. A criticized, "The stairs are shattered. They invite residents for pre-inspections after doing this," and added, "Each unit has an average of 150 defects, with some having over 200, and common area defects are rampant."
However, the local government reportedly explained that "most of the defects raised by prospective residents are minor, and no serious defects have been observed."
Netizens responded with comments such as "Apartment defects are no longer surprising," "If a major earthquake hits Korea, it will be a disaster," "Post-sale is the answer," "Residents have already paid the full price, so they are being brazen," "The house prices are in the billions of won, not just millions, so if the quality is like this, shouldn't returns be accepted?" "You shouldn't move into new buildings these days," and "This is just too much."
