Gangbuk-gu Selects 20 Young Carers and Provides Customized Care Services
Establishing a Sustainable Care Model for Family Care Youth
Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced on the 7th that it will jointly promote the 'Young Carer Shared Care Project' with the Health and Welfare Resources Research Institute (Director Lee Suk-jin) to prepare measures and support for young carers, who have recently emerged as a social issue.
'Young Carer' refers to young people aged 9 to 34 who are caring for family members in need of care due to illness, disability, mental health issues, alcohol, drugs, etc., or who are responsible for supporting the household because of this.
The 'Young Carer Shared Care Project' being promoted this time aims to raise community awareness, alleviate blind spots in care, and establish a sustainable care model for young family carers. Previously, the district enacted the 'Ordinance on Support for Family Care Youth in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul' in November last year.
To jointly promote the Young Carer Shared Care Project, the district signed a business agreement with the Health and Welfare Resources Research Institute at the Gangbuk-gu Office Planning Situation Room on the 1st.
By August, the district and the Health and Welfare Resources Research Institute will identify about 20 young family carers under the age of 24 residing in Gangbuk-gu and implement the 'Young Carer Shared Care Project.'
The support contents of the 'Young Carer Shared Care Project' include ▲ professional care service support and care coaching for young carers ▲ operation of rest, care, and economic academies ▲ conducting surveys on the actual conditions of young carers and holding policy forums.
Professional care service support will provide care services to young carer households through the dispatch of professional personnel such as nursing care, caregiving, nursing, and housekeeping for about two weeks, and will coach young carers on rest from care labor and care methods.
Also, the 'Rest, Care, Economic Academy' will be conducted in five sessions, including ▲ heart-to-heart healing therapy ▲ time for rest ▲ care academy ▲ economic academy.
The Health and Welfare Resources Research Institute plans to hold a policy forum linked with the National Assembly based on the final report after the project ends.
Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, "I hope this project will help lighten the care burden of young family carers who were in welfare blind spots, providing a good opportunity to prepare for their dreams and future," and added, "We will continue to pay attention to young carers and strive to prepare practical support measures."
