From May 7's 'Visiting Cultural Performance' to May 8's Parents' Day Commendation Ceremony, Welfare Center Anniversary Event, and May 25's Generational Festival, a Variety of Events
On the 2nd, during the Parents' Day filial piety celebration event, Lee Gi-jae, Yangcheon District Mayor, delivered special meals to the elderly.
Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it has prepared a variety of cultural programs for local seniors, including a commendation ceremony for filial piety awardees and various commemorative events, in celebration of the 52nd Parents' Day.
First, at 2 p.m. on the 7th, a "Visiting Cultural Performance" that will greatly enhance the cultural and artistic sensibility of seniors will be held in the multipurpose room (2nd floor) of the Seo Seoul Senior Welfare Center. The Sejong Center for the Performing Arts' Gugak performance team will invigorate the daily lives of about 200 seniors using the welfare center with soulful traditional Korean melodies.
On Parents' Day itself, at 2 p.m. on the 8th, the "52nd Parents' Day Commemorative Commendation Ceremony" will be held at the Yangcheon Digital Media Center. Through this awards ceremony, the district will present certificates of commendation to a total of 26 recipients, including 17 in the "Filial Piety" category who have practiced filial duty with sincerity and respect, 4 in the "Honorable Parents" category who have raised their children healthily and serve as role models, and 4 heads of organizations in the "Senior Welfare Contribution" category who have contributed to the promotion of senior welfare and serve as community exemplars.
In particular, a recipient who serves as a role model in the community emerged in the Filial Piety category. Ms. Lee Hyun-sook (72) from Mok 1-dong deeply moved many by devotedly caring for her mother-in-law (101) for 47 years after the passing of her spouse, while actively participating in volunteer activities to help neighbors in need. Also recognized for their contributions were Ms. Kim Jae-sook (59) from Sinjeong 1-dong, Ms. Jo Mi-ran (54) from Sinjeong 2-dong, and Ms. Jung Hwa-ja (69) from Sinjeong 6-dong, who have all cared for their mothers-in-law with great devotion for over 30 years.
On the same day, commemorative events honoring parental grace will be held throughout the community. At the Seo Seoul and Mokdong Senior Welfare Centers, carnations will be personally pinned on seniors, and special meals will be provided to help restore their vitality. The Yangcheon Senior Comprehensive Welfare Center will present a refined cultural leisure program for seniors through an orchestra performance.
Following this, on May 25, the area around Haenuri Fountain Square at Sinjeong Negeori Station will host the "Generations Connection Sinjeong Village Festival," where 500 residents from the 1st to 3rd generations will come together. This festival is expected to be a place of communication and harmony across all generations, from children to seniors, featuring generation-harmony performances, themed experience zones by generation (such as crafts), a "Health Zone" in collaboration with local medical institutions, a food zone, welfare information and promotional booths, and a "Mini Bazaar" encouraging resource circulation.
Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, "We have prepared a variety of commemorative events for our seniors, who are the lights of our community, in celebration of Parents' Day. We deeply thank them once again for their boundless love and dedication, and we will do our best to make Yangcheon-gu a city where seniors can live well by actively discovering and promoting customized welfare policies with the heart of caring for our parents."
