On the 5th, marking Children's Day, Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, pledged, "We will fulfill the responsibilities of politics and the state to ensure that child-rearing, childcare, and education are possible no matter when or where a child is born."
On the same day, Lee stated on his Facebook, "Children's smiles, brighter than roses, fill the whole world with happiness on Children's Day."
He added, "It is also a more precious and valuable day because the sound of children's laughter is sadly decreasing. There is much debate over numerous low birthrate measures, but one fact is clear: we cannot create a country good for raising children without ensuring the happiness of the children we already have."
He continued, "We will fulfill the responsibilities of politics and the state so that parents can fully enjoy the joy of watching their children grow, and so that child-rearing, childcare, and education are possible no matter when or where a child is born."
He said, "I believe that only when children are happy can adults be happier. I pledge to create a better world in front of the pure smiles of children."
