The Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business (Kbiz) announced on the 6th that it will begin accepting attendance applications for the "Discussion on the Improvement of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and Industrial Accident Prevention Measures," jointly held with associations and organizations that participated in the constitutional complaint filed on April 1, at the Kbiz Hall in Yeouido on the 16th.
At this discussion, held 100 days after the Serious Accidents Punishment Act was expanded to workplaces with fewer than 50 employees, the issues of the Act will be examined, and practical industrial accident prevention measures will be explored through discussions with representatives of small and medium enterprises and related experts.
In the detailed schedule, Professor Jinwoo Jeong of the Department of Safety Engineering at Seoul National University of Science and Technology and Myungro Lee, Head of the Human Resources Policy Division at Kbiz, will present on the topic of "Improvement of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and Industrial Accident Prevention Measures."
The discussion, chaired by Professor Junseon Choi, Emeritus Professor at Sungkyunkwan University Law School, will feature designated discussants including ▲ Dokyung Kim, Executive Director of Top Engineering ▲ Dongmin Jeong, CEO of Bethel Construction △ Geunwoo Lee, Professor of Law at Gachon University ▲ Myunggu Lee, Professor of Health, Environment and Safety at Eulji University ▲ Yongmoon Kim, Attorney at Dentons Lee Law Office ▲ Jinwon Choi, Attorney at Pacific Law & Consulting.
Myungro Lee, Head of the Human Resources Policy Division at Kbiz, stated, “The constitutionality of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act has been a continuous issue even among experts. For small and medium enterprises to comply with the law and make efforts to prevent industrial accidents, at least the problems such as ambiguous legal wording and excessive punishment provisions must be resolved.” He added, “We ask for the active participation and interest of industry and academic stakeholders in this discussion, which was prepared to build a safe workplace for small and medium enterprises.”
