Busan City Opens Nominations for Candidates of the 67th Busan Metropolitan City Cultural Awards

10 Nominees, One per Category, Until July 25

Busan City is accepting nominations for the "67th Busan City Cultural Awards" until July 25.

The "Busan City Cultural Awards" were established to discover and honor cultural artists who have contributed to the promotion of culture and arts in the region, the development of local culture, and the enhancement of Busan's prestige.


Since 1957, the city has annually awarded individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the development of local culture and the enhancement of citizens' cultural awareness in various fields such as science, literature, fine arts, music, photography and crafts, and sports.


To date, 416 recipients have been honored, establishing the award as the most prestigious cultural prize in the Busan area.


The award categories include ▲Humanities and Social Sciences ▲Natural Sciences ▲Literature ▲Performing Arts ▲Visual Arts ▲Traditional Arts ▲Popular Arts ▲Spatial Arts ▲Sports ▲Media and Publishing, with one recipient selected from each of the 10 categories.


Between September and mid-October, practical and final evaluations will be conducted to select the awardees, and the Busan Mayor's Award will be presented at a ceremony scheduled for late October.


Nominees can be cultural artists who have demonstrated creativity in their respective fields and have made significant contributions to the development of Busan's local culture, regardless of their place of residence.


Recommendations can be made by heads of related organizations and institutions by category, university presidents and deans, district mayors and county heads, heads of central administrative agencies located in Busan, or individuals (with the endorsement of at least 20 citizens aged 18 or older).


Nominations must be submitted by the recommending authority via mail (registered mail only) or in person (must arrive by the deadline).


Shim Jae-min, Director of the Cultural and Sports Bureau, stated, "The '67th Busan Metropolitan City Cultural Awards' is a prestigious and historic award that instills pride in local cultural figures," and added, "We ask for the public's keen interest and recommendations to ensure that worthy recipients are selected."
