Seung-ro Lee, Seongbuk-gu Mayor, Pledges 'Building Greenhouse Gas Reduction' at Green Building Conference

Seongbuk-gu, Seoul announced on the 4th that District Mayor Lee Seung-ro attended the 'Green Building Conference for Climate Crisis Response' held on the 2nd at the multipurpose hall on the 8th floor of Seoul City Hall, pledging to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 through reducing greenhouse gas emissions from buildings.


The conference was attended by Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, district mayors of Seoul's autonomous districts, Kim Sang-hyup, Chairman of the 2050 Carbon Neutral Green Growth Committee, Ahn Deok-geun, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, and Park Sang-woo, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.


The attendees pledged to jointly respond to overcome the climate crisis and realize carbon neutrality through a policy shift to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from buildings, and presented a joint declaration signing performance involving Seoul City and the autonomous districts.


The main content of this conference was about the advanced introduction of building energy reporting and rating systems and a greenhouse gas cap policy. The Seoul City and autonomous districts' declaration of execution included practical provisions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from buildings, such as efforts to realize building greenhouse gas reduction when establishing basic carbon neutrality plans for Seoul City and autonomous districts, managing building energy efficiency to achieve carbon neutrality, and encouraging participation in building energy reporting and rating systems and the greenhouse gas cap policy.


District Mayor Lee Seung-ro said, "Managing greenhouse gases from buildings is an important task in achieving carbon neutrality by 2050," and added, "We will make further efforts to strengthen the greenhouse gas reduction foundation for climate crisis response and realize carbon neutrality for the future through cooperation with Seoul City and the central government."
