New School Route Planned in Redevelopment Area for Safety of Singalcho Commuters
"Compensation Process to Be Completed Quickly to Advance Construction by 6 Months"
Lee Sang-il, the mayor of Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, has made a decisive move to open a school commuting route in a redevelopment area for the safety of children. Although the road will be lost due to redevelopment, resulting in sunk costs, the immediate safety of children was deemed more important.
According to Yongin City on the 4th, Mayor Lee visited the commuting route site near Singal Elementary School in Sangmi Village, Singal-dong, Giheung-gu the day before, and held a meeting with local residents to explain this plan.
On the morning of the same day, after a communication meeting with residents of Yeongdeok 1-dong, Mayor Lee moved to a meeting with residents of Yeongdeok 2-dong, during which he inspected the road in front of the 'Giheung Woobang IU Shell' apartment in Singal-dong together with officials from Singal Elementary School and parents.

At the site, Mayor Lee said, "We plan to secure commuting and pedestrian safety by purchasing private land to improve the commuting route to Singal Elementary School, and we intend to set a budget for land compensation next year." He added, "We will strive to complete the compensation process quickly and advance the commuting route construction project by about six months from the original plan of the end of 2026." He also mentioned that he would review nighttime pedestrian safety measures, such as installing a logo projector on the hill road next to the apartment.
Earlier, in May last year, the mayor met with residents of this apartment and, after listening to parents' requests for road construction to ensure students' safe commuting, decided to open the road. At that time, the mayor instructed the relevant departments to prepare a budget and take action, saying, "Although this is a redevelopment area and sunk costs will occur if development proceeds, we will improve the road and surroundings for the convenience of residents and the safety of students."
According to the city, about 200 students commute from this apartment to Singal Elementary School. In response to requests from the school and residents, the city is carrying out a project to open 'Urban Planning Road Giheung So1-21' on the commuting route 'Sinjeong-ro 41beon-gil.' The detailed design service has been underway since March, and full-scale compensation is planned for next year.
