20-Year-Old Given Probation for Threatening Knife Attack at Hanti Station During Seohyeon Station Stabbing Incident

A man in his 20s who posted an online warning about a 'Hanti Station stabbing' last August, near Seohyeon Station in Bundang, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, where a stabbing incident occurred, was sentenced to a suspended prison term.

According to the legal community on the 4th, Judge Seo Bo-min of Criminal Division 11 at the Seoul Eastern District Court sentenced Lee (21), who was indicted on charges of intimidation and obstruction of official duties by deception, to six months in prison with a two-year suspension. He was also ordered to perform 120 hours of community service.

Judge Seo stated, "Considering the circumstances and content of the crime, as well as the extent of obstruction of official duties, the responsibility is not light," but also added, "the defendant deleted the warning post shortly after posting it, voluntarily appeared at the police station the next day to confess and undergo investigation, and acknowledged and reflected on his wrongdoing," explaining the reasons for the sentencing.

Lee is accused of posting a message titled "Stabbing planned at Hanti Station at 10 PM tomorrow" on the internet community 'DC Inside' from his home in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, around 11 PM on August 3 last year.

The day Lee posted the message was the same day the stabbing incident occurred at Seohyeon Station in Bundang. Notably, about ten days before the post, a stabbing incident also took place in Sillim-dong, which had already heightened public anxiety.

People who saw Lee's post reported it to 112. When the police traced the author, Lee surrendered himself the next day.
