A man in his 40s, Mr. A, was arrested by the police on the 4th after holding a woman he did not know hostage with a weapon at a household goods store near Gangnam Station in Seoul.

According to the Seoul Suseo Police Station, the police received a 112 report at 9:29 a.m. stating that a hostage situation was occurring. They arrived at the scene and confronted the suspect, arresting Mr. A at 9:55 a.m., 26 minutes later.

The female victim was safely rescued.

The police are investigating Mr. A on suspicion of attempted murder, including the specific motive for the crime, and plan to request an arrest warrant.
