A female university student in China reportedly died after being forced by her advisor to participate in sports activities despite submitting a medical certificate stating she had a 'congenital heart disease,' sparking public outrage.
Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on the 3rd that Zhao Mupuyang, a first-year student at Baicheng Medical Vocational College in Jilin Province, northeastern China, collapsed due to a seizure while running with her classmates last month on the 12th and was taken to the hospital but died two days later.
The school reportedly had a rule requiring morning exercises such as gymnastics and running. Zhao’s aunt, Ms. Wang, said, "My niece submitted a medical certificate last year proving she had congenital heart disease and received approval to be exempted from all sports activities." Nevertheless, Ms. Wang claimed that the advisor, Mr. Song, forced Zhao to participate in running.
She alleged that harassment began after Mr. Song became displeased with Zhao in early last month. Ms. Wang explained, "In early April, Mr. Song subtly demanded that his wife be given live fish as a cooking gift, so Zhao ordered fish from a shopping mall, but the fish were delivered dead, which triggered the issue."
She added, "Mr. Song got angry at Zhao and even said her medical certificate was fake, ordering her to run every day." On the day of the incident, when Zhao collapsed during running, the bereaved family expressed outrage, saying Mr. Song did not immediately call emergency services but informed university administrators first.

A friend testified that Mr. Song prevented other students from approaching the collapsed Zhao. An anonymous classmate present at the scene said, "If we had tried to rescue her in time, it might have been effective, but the professor did not allow us to get close."
The university acknowledged that Zhao died from heart disease but has not disclosed specific details about Mr. Song’s conduct. A university official stated, "The police are investigating this matter, and we are cooperating with them."
Currently, the advisor Mr. Song is reportedly missing with his phone turned off.
