On the 3rd, the Hwasun Branch of the Jeonnam Regional Headquarters of the Korea Rural Community Corporation held a 'Safety Farming Water Release Ceremony' at Geumjeon Reservoir located in Hancheon-myeon, Hwasun, marking the beginning of the full-scale farming season and commenced the supply of agricultural water.
The water release ceremony is an event where agricultural water is first released before starting the year's farming, symbolizing a wish for a bountiful harvest. About 80 people attended, including County Council members Josehyun and Yoongil Yoo, Seo Jangwon, Director of the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration, the corporation’s partners such as the operating representatives, water facility inspectors responsible for water management, and agricultural water users.
Geumjeon Reservoir has a total storage capacity of 4,874㎥ and supplies agricultural water stably with a current storage rate of 100%, maintaining more than 186% compared to the average year, covering a beneficiary area of 766 hectares in the Hancheon-myeon area of Hwasun County.
A corporation official stated, “Along with the original purpose of the water release ceremony to pray for a safe and abundant farming year, we will do our best to ensure that farming is not disrupted by responding to abnormal weather such as recent droughts and heavy rains and by safely managing agricultural water.”
