Busan Gijang-gun Successfully Hosts 'Mundong Village Big Festival Big Event'

Linked to the 'Eochon New Vitality Promotion Project'

On the 3rd, Busan's Gijang-gun announced that the 'Mundong Village Grand Festival Big Event,' linked to the 'Mundong Living Area Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project,' was successfully held in Mundong Village, Ilgwang-eup.

In connection with the Fisheries Village New Vitality Promotion Project, the 'Mundong Village Grand Festival Big Event' was held.

The 'Big Event' is an annual event jointly hosted by the Social Contribution Information Center (operated by the Council on Social Welfare) and Corporate Welfare Net. It is a collaborative social contribution activity that simultaneously deploys the capabilities of companies and public institutions to improve village conditions and strengthen solidarity with the local community.

Since October last year, Gijang-gun has been actively promoting the project by opening an on-site support center for the Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project at the Mundong Haenyeo Welfare Center for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' initiative. In particular, the on-site support center is conducting various activities to improve residents' living services through discovering social contribution-related organizations and signing agreements with companies.

Recently, while seeking linkage projects to discover linker organizations in the welfare sector and solve local community issues, Mundong Village was recommended as a candidate site for the event through consultations with the Busan Council on Social Welfare, the operator of the 'Big Event,' and was selected as this year's venue.

On the day of the 'Big Event,' about 150 volunteer employees from 21 companies, organizations, and public institutions, including the Busan Regional Headquarters of the National Pension Service, participated. Starting with an opening performance where carnations were pinned on village elders in celebration of Parents' Day in May, the month of family, 'village transformation activities' such as alley painting, beach environmental cleanup, and pest control were carried out.

Additionally, health check-up booths including ophthalmology and dentistry were set up to provide medical services to residents, and a food-sharing booth using the local specialty, green onions from the Mundong area, was operated, offering a rich and diverse program.

County Governor Jeong Jong-bok emphasized, "The Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project is a key initiative driving dynamic changes in the living and economic conditions of the Mundong living area fishing village," and added, "We will revitalize the region by promoting various projects, including this 'Big Event.'"

The Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project is a nationally funded project led by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, investing 3 trillion won over five years in 300 fishing villages.

The project is divided into three types according to the scale and characteristics of the fishing village: ▲Fishing Village Economic Platform Development ▲Fishing Village Living Platform Development ▲Fishing Village Safety Infrastructure Improvement. In 2023, the Mundong living area in Gijang-gun was the only site in Busan selected for the 'Fishing Village Living Platform Development' project.
