Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon is paying respects at the 'National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery' in Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 3rd.
Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon visited the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery (located in Gwangju Metropolitan City) on the 3rd to commemorate the 44th anniversary of the May 18 Democratic Uprising and to pay tribute to martyrs from Gyeonggi Province.
Governor Kim wrote in the guestbook, "With the spirit of Gwangju that changed the course of history, we will achieve a great transformation of the Republic of Korea."
About 30 people accompanied the visit, including Governor Kim Dong-yeon, First Deputy Governor Oh Byung-kwon, Second Deputy Governor Oh Hu-seok, Economic Deputy Governor Kim Hyun-gon, Director of the Economic Division of the Gyeonggi Institute of Economic Science Promotion Lim Moon-young, and CEO of the Gyeonggi Welfare Foundation Won Mi-jung.
This was the first time that the Governor of Gyeonggi Province and key executives and heads of institutions from Gyeonggi jointly paid respects at the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery.
A Gyeonggi Province official stated, "The joint visit was held to honor and carry on the spirit of May 18 throughout the entire Gyeonggi Province."
There are six martyrs from Gyeonggi Province buried at the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery, including Jeong Ki-young (who went missing during the May 18 Democratic Uprising protests) and Kim Yoon-sik (who participated in the May 18 Democratic Uprising with his son).
