Hyundai Motor Group announced that it has been selected as the global automotive group with the most "Top Safety Pick" vehicles in the crash evaluations conducted by the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
On the 3rd, Hyundai Motor Group stated that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 was upgraded to the highest rating, Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP+), and that two models, Sonata and Santa Fe, were newly selected for the Top Safety Pick (TSP) rating.
Following the upgrade of the Genesis G90 and G80 models to TSP+ on the 23rd of last month, the total number of models receiving TSP or higher ratings this year increased to 18, including 9 Hyundai models, 7 Genesis models, and 2 Kia models. This is the highest number of models among global automotive groups.
This year’s TSP+ rated models include three Hyundai vehicles: Ioniq 6, Ioniq 5, and Kona; five Genesis vehicles: G90, G80, electrified G80, GV80, and GV60; and the Kia Telluride.
Models that received the TSP rating include six Hyundai vehicles: Avante (known locally as Elantra), Tucson, Palisade, Santa Cruz, Sonata, and Santa Fe; two Genesis vehicles: GV70 and electrified GV70; and the Kia Sportage.
IIHS, established in 1959 as a nonprofit organization, annually evaluates and publishes comprehensive results on crashworthiness and crash prevention performance of vehicles released in the U.S. market. This year, IIHS selected a total of 75 models worldwide, including 26 models with TSP+ ratings and 49 models with TSP ratings.
A Hyundai Motor Group official explained that the significance of this crash evaluation result lies in meeting the more stringent evaluation criteria introduced this year. A Hyundai Motor Group representative said, "Hyundai Motor Group prioritizes customer safety above all else and will continue to strive to provide the highest level of safety."
