'10-Minute Sellout' Gangseo Sarang Gift Certificates Issued for 10 Billion Won... 5% Discount

Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) will issue the second round of the “Seoul Gangseo Love Gift Certificate” worth 10 billion KRW starting at 2 PM on the 8th of this month.

The Seoul Gangseo Love Gift Certificate, a mobile local currency, has been highly popular, selling out within about 10 minutes of each issuance. It is favored because buyers receive a 5% discount on the purchase amount and a 30% income deduction on the payment amount.

The district plans to increase the issuance scale by 5 billion KRW compared to last year, issuing a total of 40 billion KRW worth of gift certificates in five rounds this year.

Individuals can purchase up to 500,000 KRW. The validity period is five years from the date of issuance, and a maximum of 1.5 million KRW can be held. Corporations have no purchase limit but are not eligible for discounts.

The gift certificates can be purchased through Seoul Pay Plus (Seoul Pay+) and can be used at about 12,000 affiliated stores in Gangseo-gu, including restaurants, beauty salons, pharmacies, and convenience stores. Small business owners are exempt from payment fees.

Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, “We have significantly expanded the scale of gift certificate issuance this year for consumers and small business owners,” adding, “We will do our best to develop policies that reduce household burdens and revitalize the local economy during these difficult times of high interest rates and high exchange rates.”
