Seoul City and Districts Join Execution Declaration to Reduce Building Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Jungnang-gu to Establish Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth Master Plan for 2050 Carbon Neutral Goal
Jungnang-gu (District Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) has joined the Seoul Metropolitan Government and autonomous districts' declaration of action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from buildings.
On the morning of the 2nd, the district attended the ‘Green Building Conference’ held at Seoul City Hall to respond to the climate crisis, where the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and Seoul’s autonomous districts gathered to reaffirm their commitment to innovating building energy efficiency.
The conference included the signing of a business agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from buildings, the Seoul Metropolitan Government-autonomous districts’ declaration of action for building greenhouse gas reduction, and policy discussions on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from buildings.
The ‘Seoul Metropolitan Government-Autonomous Districts Declaration of Action’ contains three practical provisions for reducing building greenhouse gas emissions: ▲ reflecting building greenhouse gas reduction policies when establishing autonomous district carbon neutrality and green growth basic plans ▲ actively participating in building energy reporting, rating systems, and total greenhouse gas emission caps for buildings owned by autonomous districts ▲ encouraging active participation of private buildings within autonomous district areas in building energy reporting, rating systems, and total greenhouse gas emission caps.
District Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi, who attended the conference, also expressed Jungnang-gu’s strong commitment by joining the ‘2050 Carbon Neutral One Team Seoul’ initiative.
Going forward, Jungnang-gu plans to proactively respond to greenhouse gas reduction by establishing the ‘Jungnang-gu Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth Basic Plan,’ which considers alignment with the national and Seoul Metropolitan Government’s carbon neutrality and green growth basic plans for 2050 carbon neutrality.
Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi stated, “With today’s gathering of Seoul and other autonomous districts sharing a common purpose, we will respond more actively to the climate crisis. I also hope that residents will join efforts to protect the environment and create a sustainable Jungnang.”
The district is emphasizing the importance of environmental protection by establishing the Jungnang-gu Environmental Education Center and operating various environmental education programs for all residents, from children to adults. Additionally, the district encourages residents to actively participate in energy saving by promoting Eco Mileage enrollment, and due to high participation rates, Jungnang-gu has been selected as the top autonomous district in the Eco Mileage evaluation for eight consecutive years.
