May 8 Opening of ‘Mullae-dong Flower Garden’... A Major Transformation of the Space Previously Hidden by Barriers
Various Spaces Offering Rest and Healing Including Clay Path, Lawn Plaza, and Artist Garden
‘Garden Support Center’ Also Opens Within the Flower Garden... Offering Unique Programs Themed on Plants and Gardens
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will create the ‘Mullae-dong Flower Garden’ on public land in Mullae-dong and open it to residents on May 8.
The district has transformed this space, which had been used as a material warehouse and hidden behind tall barriers, into an open area offering rest and healing to residents, and plans to declare the creation of a ‘Garden City Yeongdeungpo’.
At Mullae-dong Flower Garden, visitors can enjoy various flowers and experience the changing seasons. Additionally, a wide ▲lawn plaza where children can run freely has been created, along with ▲barefoot clay paths (wet and dry) and ▲circular walking trails designed for residents’ health, providing a space to breathe with nature and heal.
The children’s playground is equipped with a net climbing frame, zipline, trampoline, and more, offering adventurous and creative play spaces that provide a unique experience for kids. Furthermore, exercise equipment accessible to all age groups has also been installed.
Visitors can also explore three themed ‘Artist Gardens’ created with the participation of professional artists. Comprising the ‘Supernatural Garden,’ ‘Mullae-dong Aideul,’ and ‘Mullae Craft Garden,’ these three gardens each feature different themes, presenting distinctive landscapes that can only be seen in Yeongdeungpo.
In particular, the ‘Garden Support Center’ located within the garden offers various education and programs themed around plants and gardens, including ‘Companion Plant Therapy.’
The district will officially open the ‘Mullae-dong Flower Garden’ to residents with an opening ceremony at 2 p.m. on May 8. The event will include celebratory performances, explanations of garden artists’ works, tree planting with residents, and a wish tree where visitors can hang their hopes, among other diverse activities.
The tree planting event with residents will be enriched through collaboration with the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) and Maple Tree Korea Management, providing even more attractions.
In celebration of Family Month, programs such as ‘Take-Out Pot Making,’ ‘Plant Keychain Making,’ and ‘Colorful Pressed Flower Bookmark Making’ will also be available for families to enjoy together.
Meanwhile, the district stated that the garden will continue to be used as a backyard garden even after the Yeongdeungpo Mullae Arts Center is established in the future.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “It is meaningful that we can offer the previously unused public land in Mullae-dong as a space for rest and healing through the creation of the Mullae-dong Flower Garden,” and added, “We hope families, couples, and friends visit the flower garden to feel nature and relax comfortably.”
