Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation (President Kim Nam-il) will hold the "Geumjadonga Eunjadonga Lullaby Concert" at the Baekgyeol Performance Hall in Gyeongju Expo Park on the 5th in celebration of Children's Day.
In 1970, at the "World Lullaby Competition" held in Vienna, Austria, the center of Western music, a Korean grandmother won first place, surpassing lullabies by Schubert and Brahms. Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation decided to hold the "Geumjadonga Eunjadonga Lullaby Concert" to widely promote the excellence of lullabies, a precious intangible cultural asset that we must preserve.
"Jajang jajang uri agi jajang jajang jaldojanda, Geumjadonga Eunjadonga uri agi jaldojanda, Geumeul jumyeon neoreul sarya Euneul jundeul neoreul sarya...".
The gold character in the lyrics of "Jajanga," a representative Korean lullaby, refers to the Geumcheok-ri ancient tombs in Geoncheon-eup, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongbuk, and the silver character refers to Eunjasan in Euncheok-myeon, Sangju-si, Gyeongbuk.
The lullaby concert will be held twice on the 5th, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Winners of the "2018 Lullaby Contest," including Kim Si-won, Lee Sun-hee, and Kim Min-young, will perform traditional lullabies (Sangju lullaby, Jajang jajang uri aegi, Gangwon lullaby, etc.) and creative lullabies (Manpasikjeok lullaby, July 7th, etc.). Additionally, famous lullabies can be enjoyed with orchestra performances.
In front of the stage, a Bean Bag listening ZONE is set up to enjoy lullabies in a more relaxed atmosphere. Besides the lullaby concert, there will be a "Regional Traditional Lullaby Listening Space Booth" and an "Exhibition and Craft Experience Booth." All booths will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and can be found at the entrance of Baekgyeol Performance Hall.
At the "Regional Traditional Lullaby Listening Space Booth," visitors can enjoy various traditional lullabies from across the country, including Sangju-si lullaby in Gyeongbuk, Wori lullaby in Pohang-si, Seosan-si lullaby in Chungnam, Wanju-gun lullaby in Jeonbuk, Yangpyeong-gun lullaby in Gyeonggi, Aegihonggeuneun sound in Jeju-si, and Wonju-si lullaby in Gangwon.
Next to it, 13 types of Hanbok baby jackets are exhibited, and visitors can participate in a saekdong pouch making experience. The saekdong pouch making is targeted at children aged 10 and older and their parents, and the experience takes about 20 minutes. Furthermore, Gyeongju Expo Park has various contents prepared for Children's Day that can be enjoyed all in one place.
Kim Nam-il, president of Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation, said, "I hope visitors and children visiting Gyeongju Expo Park on Children's Day have a joyful time and create happy memories," and added, "I hope this unique content of lullabies will provide an opportunity for the whole family to enjoy the value of culture."
