Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon is receiving guidance from an Air Products official during his visit last year for an investment agreement.
Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon will visit the United States and Canada from the 6th to the 18th for 11 nights and 13 days to expand economic territory, strengthen international exchange cooperation, and attract overseas investment exceeding 1 trillion won.
Governor Kim announced on the 2nd that he plans to visit Sacramento, San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles in California; Phoenix in Arizona; Seattle in Washington; and Victoria City in British Columbia, Canada.
This is Governor Kim's second visit to the United States. Last year, he visited five locations in the eastern United States?Michigan, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Virginia?over a 6-night, 7-day schedule.
During this visit, Governor Kim will visit the North American West Coast, the heart of the global semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) industries, to engage in international exchange cooperation, economic territory expansion, and investment attraction activities.
First, in the field of international exchange cooperation, Governor Kim will visit Washington and Arizona for the first time to initiate exchange and cooperation between the two regions. He will also visit British Columbia (BC) Province in Canada, which has been a sister region since 2008, to strengthen mutual cooperation systems. BC Province is reportedly preparing hospitality equivalent to a state visit.
To expand economic territory, Governor Kim will also visit major companies and institutions in California and Arizona.
During his visit to California, he will meet with the headquarters of the world's leading big tech companies in the AI field to discuss cooperation plans. He will also visit unicorn companies to share success stories and exchange opinions on collaboration with Pangyo Techno Valley.
Unicorn companies are unlisted startups with a corporate value of over 1 billion dollars (1 trillion won) and less than 10 years since their founding. He will also visit advanced distribution and bio companies to discuss investment attraction and cooperation plans.
Additionally, in Arizona, he plans to visit semiconductor companies for investment consultations and, together with five companies from the province, visit Arizona State University, renowned for its world-class semiconductor research institute, to propose cooperation. Arizona, located in the southwestern desert region of the United States, has recently gained great fame as the "silicon desert," reminiscent of California's Silicon Valley.
Governor Kim will also conduct overseas investment attraction activities exceeding 1 trillion won during this North American visit.
Gyeonggi Province is currently negotiating investment attraction worth 560 billion won with four companies, including Company A in the secondary battery new materials sector and Company B in the advanced distribution sector. Separately, they will hold investment consultations locally regarding an additional investment attraction plan worth 500 billion won. In particular, investment attraction activities will be conducted for northern Gyeonggi related to the establishment of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Autonomous Province, which Gyeonggi Province is promoting.
A Gyeonggi Province official said, "As a result of building relationships and maintaining continuous contact with key American figures who visited Gyeonggi Province last year, we have created an important opportunity to establish new exchange relations with key regions in the western United States," adding, "Since this is an overseas trip that has been prepared for a long time, we expect meaningful results."
