‘Unfair Restriction on Paralyzed Disabled Persons' Use of Call Taxis’... Kwonikwi Recommends Correction

It has been determined that preventing people with paralysis in their arms and legs, who have difficulty using public transportation, from using disabled call taxis is unfair.

On the 2nd, the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission recommended that Corporation A correct the situation to allow a person with paralysis in all four limbs to use the disabled call taxi.

Mr. B had been using the disabled call taxi operated by Corporation A since 2019. However, in December of last year, a disability grade reassessment was conducted for those whose reassessment deadlines had expired, and Mr. B was notified that he did not qualify to use the disabled call taxi because his leg disability was not severe.

The Commission's investigation found that Mr. B has a severe disability with paralysis in all four limbs, making it practically impossible for him to use public transportation, and there was no other evidence justifying the restriction of his use of the disabled call taxi operated by Corporation A since 2019.

Kim Taegyu, Vice Chairman of the Commission, stated, “It is unfair to restrict the use of disabled call taxis on the grounds that the disability is not severe when, in reality, the person is unable to move independently,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to ensure that frontline public officials provide meticulous administration that considers the needs of people with disabilities.”
