Continuing Rescue Efforts to Prevent Secondary Accidents
Netizens Praise the Actions
A stray dog organization expressed gratitude to a soldier who covered a puppy dying after being hit by a car on the road with his military uniform and controlled traffic. On the 30th of last month, a story from a representative of the stray dog organization 'Dorosi Jikyeojulgae' was shared on the military-related tip channel 'Yukgun Hunryeonso Daesin Jeonhaedeurimnida (Yukdaejeon)'. Song, the counseling team leader of Dorosi Jikyeojulgae, stated, "I have no way to express my thanks to Sergeant Byeon Yunseop of the 2nd Battalion, 705th Special Forces Regiment, so I am leaving this message."

Song explained that the organization "lost a Jindo dog while transferring it to a temporary shelter in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province on the 17th, and despite searching from the 18th, we could not find it," adding, "We searched for the Jindo dog for two days without success, but late in the afternoon on the 19th, we received a message that someone was controlling traffic and caring for the Jindo dog as a soldier." When he rushed to the scene, the puppy was lying cold on the road after being hit by a car, and Sergeant Byeon was beside it, having taken off his military uniform to cover and protect the dog.
Regarding the situation, Sergeant Byeon Yunseop explained in an interview with a media outlet, "On the 19th, on my way home from work, I happened to find a puppy hit by a car in the middle of the road," and added, "I temporarily stopped traffic, moved the injured puppy to the sidewalk, and then made a call." He also said, "I thought the puppy was dead, but it was still alive and trembling," and "I hurriedly took off my military uniform to cover it."
Although Sergeant Byeon usually fears dogs, seeing a car bumper lying in the middle of the road and the puppy still alive, he thought a secondary accident could occur, so he overcame his fear and continued rescue efforts. Song expressed gratitude for this action, saying, "We are truly thankful to Sergeant Byeon, who stopped on the road to care for the dying puppy and controlled traffic. Without him, we would not have been able to witness the puppy's final moments."
Furthermore, Song expressed repeated thanks, saying, "Throughout the process of taking the puppy to the hospital and funeral home, Sergeant Byeon communicated and showed concern, which gave us strength to continue protecting the remaining dogs." Netizens responded to the story with comments such as "This is the dignity of a Republic of Korea soldier" and "It's fortunate that the puppy met a warm-hearted person on its last journey."
