Yoon Awards Samjeonggeom Plaques to Newly Promoted Senior Officers: "Be the Core of a Strong Military"

On the 1st, President Yoon Suk-yeol awarded the Samjeonggeom insignia (a flag with a ribbon) to seven newly promoted lieutenant generals, including Son Dae-gwon, the new Army Quartermaster General.

That afternoon at the Yongsan Presidential Office, President Yoon received promotion and appointment reports from Quartermaster General Son, Army Education Commanding General Jeong Jin-pal, Ground Operations Command Chief of Staff Kwon Dae-won, Joint Chiefs of Staff Operations Headquarters Chief Lee Seung-oh, Defense Intelligence Headquarters Chief Won Cheon-hee, 3rd Corps Commander Seo Jin-ha, and 7th Corps Commander Park Jae-yeol, and presented them with the Samjeonggeom insignia.

President Yoon personally attached the insignia specifying their positions to the Samjeonggeom swords of the generals promoted to lieutenant general, encouraging them. He congratulated their spouses with bouquets and took commemorative photos.

In his encouragement speech, President Yoon said, "You have entered the military gate and risen to the highest command position," adding, "Please set an even greater example for many juniors, subordinates, and soldiers, love them more, and take a central role in building a strong military."

The Samjeonggeom is a sword awarded by the Commander-in-Chief, the President, to brigadier generals upon promotion. It symbolizes the unity of the Army, Navy, and Air Force in achieving the three spirits of national defense, unification, and prosperity. The President personally attaches an insignia engraved with the position, rank, and name to the Samjeonggeom upon promotion or appointment to lieutenant general or higher.

Attending the event were Deputy Minister of National Defense Kim Seon-ho, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Kim Myung-soo, Director of the National Security Office Jang Ho-jin, and Second Deputy Director of the National Security Office In Seong-hwan.
