Kim Nam-il, President of Gyeongbuk Tourism Corporation, "Will Focus on Marine Healing and Leisure Tourism"

Business Agreement Signed with 5 Institutions Including Daegu Hanui University

Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation recently established the Marine Culture and Tourism Team to focus on marine healing leisure tourism projects, and on the 30th of last month, signed a business agreement with related organizations to promote ‘Marine Education and Cultural Tourism in Gyeongbuk Province.’


The signing ceremony held at the Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation’s main conference hall was attended by over 20 representatives from six organizations, including Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation (President Kim Nam-il), Daegu Haany University (President Byun Chang-hoon), Pohang Office of Education (Superintendent Cheon Jong-bok), Gyeongju Office of Education (Superintendent Kwon Dae-hoon), Ulleung Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Jin-gyu), and Korea Marine Boy Scouts Gyeongbuk Federation (Federation Chief Byun Chang-hoon).

Through this joint agreement, these organizations agreed to actively cooperate on joint projects for developing marine education and cultural tourism content, education for nurturing marine talents, and campaigns for marine history and regional community development.


Kim Nam-il, President of Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation, stated, “Until now, we have developed content centered on Gyeongbuk’s history, cultural heritage, and inland areas, but going forward, we plan to focus on marine healing and leisure tourism.” He added, “We will serve as a control tower connecting the Gyeongju Munmu the Great Marine History Museum opening next year, Pohang haenyeo (female divers) humanities resources and international cruise terminal, Uljin Hupo Marina Port, and Ulleung Island’s island healing tourism.”


President Kim further said, “Through this business agreement, we hope to nurture future marine talents and grow Gyeongbuk into the world’s leading marine culture and tourism hub.”


Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation plans to focus on water-viewing, gourmet, and beautiful port tourism, including next year’s ‘100th Anniversary Festival of the Three Designated Ports in Gyeongbuk (Gyeongju Gampo, Pohang Guryongpo, Ulleung Dodong Port).’


Byun Chang-hoon, President of Daegu Haany University and also Federation Chief of Korea Marine Boy Scouts Gyeongbuk Federation, emphasized, “We promise to plan tasks related to marine education and cultural tourism to jointly lead innovation in the local community. We have established the nation’s first marine education and culture specialized department and are making various efforts for regional development and current issues, including marine education and culture, marine leisure tourism, and marine healing industry.”


Cheon Jong-bok, Superintendent of Pohang Office of Education, said, “We will expand career experience opportunities linked to marine education.” Kwon Dae-hoon, Superintendent of Gyeongju Office of Education, emphasized, “We will strive to provide youth with experiences in preserving marine culture.” Kim Jin-gyu, Superintendent of Ulleung Office of Education, stated, “We will work harder to make Ulleung and Dokdo marine education and culture zones.”
