Eco-friendly Snack Factory... Implementation of Logistics Automation System
Total Investment of 68.4 Billion KRW... Twice the Size of Existing Factory
Crown Confectionery announced on the 1st that it has completed a new eco-friendly snack factory in Asan, Chungnam. This snack-specialized factory produces main snack products such as Jolly Pong and Kon칲, replacing the existing Asan factory after 36 years with a new production base.
On the afternoon of the 30th of last month, Crown Confectionery held a completion ceremony for the 'New Asan Factory' in Eumbong-myeon, Asan, and began full-scale operations. It is an ESG-type eco-friendly snack factory applying the latest production technology and logistics automation systems.
Yoon Young-dal, Chairman of Crown Haitai Confectionery, said in his commemorative speech, "It is meaningful and joyful that a state-of-the-art snack-specialized factory combining Crown Confectionery's unique know-how with the latest technology has been completed," adding, "It will be an opportunity to start a vigorous takeoff toward the global market beyond Korea."
To commemorate the completion of Crown Confectionery's new Asan factory, Yoon Young-dal, Chairman of Crown Haitai Confectionery (seventh from the left), Yoon Seok-bin, CEO of Crown Confectionery (tenth from the left), Kang Hoon-sik, Member of the National Assembly (sixth from the left), and Park Kyung-gwi, Mayor of Asan (ninth from the left), are participating in a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
New Asan Factory Doubles Production Capacity... Strengthening Market Competitiveness
The new Asan factory covers a total area of 52,000㎡ (16,000 pyeong), with a budget of 68.4 billion KRW excluding land costs. The factory size is more than twice that of the existing factory (20,000㎡), preparing for the introduction of new production lines in the future.
The new factory produces Crown Confectionery's main snack products including ▲Jolly Pong ▲Kon칲 ▲Koncho ▲Konchi ▲Caramel Corn with peanuts ▲Churros. The maximum annual production capacity is worth 240 billion KRW. Additionally, by verticalizing the production lines, product safety and efficiency have been improved, significantly enhancing production competitiveness.
The new factory consists of three buildings: the production building, support building, and logistics building. The first floor of the support building is designed as an open space of about 200 pyeong, including an exhibition hall. It can be used for meetings, rest, cultural art exhibitions, or performances, and is planned to be an open space for local residents.
Increasing Energy Efficiency and Reducing Carbon Emissions... Completion of the Latest Eco-Friendly Snack Factory
The new Asan factory is an eco-friendly snack factory applying the latest technologies.
High-efficiency transformers have been installed to greatly improve energy efficiency. Using low-NOx (Nitrogen Oxides) eco-friendly boilers, carbon emissions have been reduced to half compared to the previous level, minimizing energy loss and increasing efficiency. The latest filtering equipment is applied to perfectly separate pollutants in advance and discharge only safe wastewater.
Solar power generation facilities are also planned to be installed. These solar panels will be installed on the factory roof, maximizing land use without securing additional land, and minimizing energy loss during transmission and distribution. The company plans to continue efforts for sustainable development and carbon reduction by utilizing solar energy.
Strengthening Logistics Efficiency with a Location Close to the Capital Region in the Center of the Country
Along with the production factory, a logistics center more than twice the size of the old factory's logistics facility has been newly established. It is a state-of-the-art logistics facility with an automated system, planned to be used as a hub for snack logistics in the central region. Using the latest robotic equipment, products can be automatically loaded and packaged.
The newly built large logistics center has a logistics processing capacity of up to 500,000 boxes. The logistics processing volume has also more than doubled compared to before. The platform allows 10 vehicles to dock simultaneously for efficient product transportation.
Not only snack products produced at the new Asan factory but also products produced at the Jincheon factory in Chungbuk can be handled here, along with logistics for e-commerce channels.
With the addition of the newly established Asan logistics center to the logistics base located at the existing Daejeon factory, a logistics hub for the central region has been secured, enabling rapid delivery of products to any region nationwide.
Thanks to securing a central production base and a large-scale automated logistics center, logistics efficiency has been greatly enhanced.
The Dawn of the West Coast Era... Securing Export Competitiveness
Right next to the new Asan factory is the Haitai Confectionery Asan factory (14,000㎡, about 4,300 pyeong), completed in July 2022. Crown Haitai can produce products worth about 500 billion KRW annually through the two factories in Asan.
Crown Haitai has established a central production and logistics base centered on the two factories located in Asan. With Pyeongtaek Port nearby, it plans to use this as a forward base to strengthen competitiveness in both domestic and overseas markets.
The straight-line distance from Asan's 2nd Techno Valley, where the two factories are located, to Pyeongtaek Port is about 20 km, reachable by vehicle in 30 minutes.
A Crown Haitai official said, "We plan to strengthen current export competitiveness and use it as a foothold for expanding overseas markets by utilizing the two bases in Asan."
