Ulsan City Citizen Award Contest Registration June 25-27

Symbolically Expressing the Pain of Victims and Bereaved Families for Submission

The first agenda item of the Ulsan Labor-Management-Government-Civil Council, the Ulsan Industrial Accident Victims Memorial Tower (tentative name), will be designed by the citizens of Ulsan.

Ulsan City announced the plan for the memorial tower contest, the first of its kind established by a local government, on May 1st, and will hold a design competition to share the purpose of building the Industrial Accident Victims Memorial Tower.

Anyone who is a citizen of Ulsan can participate, and the design must symbolically express the pain of the victims and bereaved families who died from industrial accidents since the designation of the Ulsan Specific Industrial Complex in 1962.

Additionally, considering accessibility for citizens visiting the site and that it will be an outdoor facility built in front of the East Gate of Ulsan Grand Park, the design must ensure safety and durability.

The submission period is three days from June 25 to 27, and entries can be submitted by mail or email.

The contest judging will be conducted by a committee composed of citizens and experts, and the winning works will be announced on the Ulsan City website by the end of August. A total of five works will be selected and awarded certificates and prize money (totaling 7 million KRW).

An official from the city stated, “Since Ulsan was designated as a Specific Industrial Complex in 1962, it has grown for over 60 years to become the industrial capital of South Korea. We are building the Industrial Accident Victims Memorial Tower together with citizens to commemorate the victims of industrial accidents behind the glory of the industrial capital and to console their bereaved families.”
