Providing Various Cultural Performances for Senior Center Users on Parents' Day
Life Stories from 3 Seniors and Instrumental Concert Featuring 6 Senior Groups
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced on the 30th that it held the ‘Harmony Festival’ with 150 elderly participants at the Geumcheon Musical Center, hosted by the Geumcheon Senior Welfare Center (Director Kim Mi-seong).
The event was organized to express gratitude to the elderly using the center ahead of Parents' Day and to provide the joy of watching cultural performances.
The event lasted for two hours and thirty minutes, starting with pre-show performances including folk songs, creative dance, and pansori by students from the National Traditional Arts Middle School.
During the ‘Elderly Life Stories’ segment, where three seniors took turns sharing their life stories, two participants moved the audience by sharing their story of being lifelong friends for 90 years, born in the same neighborhood.
Additionally, six senior teams participated in the ‘Elderly Talent Presentation,’ playing instruments such as the knee caj?n and ukulele, followed by a ‘Celebration Performance’ featuring saxophone and acoustic guitar by the Geumcheon-gu Donghaeng Busking team.
Participants received gift packages consisting of carnations, hiking socks, and sets of apples, skin lotion, and towels.
Kim Mi-seong, Director of the Geumcheon Senior Welfare Center, said, “We are pleased to hold an event where many seniors could gather and enjoy together for the first time in three years since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. We will do our best to ensure that the seniors using the center feel the joy of learning and live a happy old age looking forward to tomorrow.”
For the past three years, due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19 infections, the center replaced the Parents' Day commemorative event with a small-scale event in cooperation with community centers, distributing gift packages to low-income seniors.
Mayor Yu Seong-hoon said, “We prepared this event with gratitude and respect for the elderly, and we hope they have a joyful and happy time. We will continue to operate various programs for seniors to create a happy, age-friendly city in Geumcheon-gu.”
