For over 20 years, the district-led proactive administration has improved the environment of the unpaved public parking lot causing dust and inconvenience to residents... District funds invested to fully asphalt the parking lot surface, reorganize parking lines, and repaint the floor for a pleasant parking environment
Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that the unpaved off-street parking lot next to Hansarang Church, which had caused inconvenience to parking lot users and nearby residents for over 20 years due to frequent dust scattering and muddy puddles, has been redeveloped into an 88-space parking lot through environmental maintenance work.
The maintenance target site (Sinjeong 7-dong 324-11) is a 2,916㎡ city-owned land that was originally a vacant lot but has been operated as a parking lot since 2003 to alleviate parking difficulties.
However, as it was an unpaved surface covered with gravel and sand, prolonged use caused surface damage, resulting in dust scattering, muddy conditions during rain, and illegal dumping of trash, leading to frequent complaints over several years. Due to the nature of the city-owned land, the district office was unable to carry out maintenance arbitrarily.
At the New Year district work briefing in January, residents’ complaints about the unpaved surface condition were continuously raised. The district office judged that it could no longer overlook the residents’ difficulties and, after close consultation with the landowner, Seoul City, obtained project approval around the end of March and proceeded with environmental maintenance work for the first time in over 20 years.
Through about a month of maintenance work starting in early April, the district office fully paved the parking lot surface with asphalt concrete, reorganized parking lines to prevent parking confusion, and completed painting of entry, exit, and directional arrows on the ground. As a result, the unpaved vacant lot that had caused chronic dust scattering was reborn as a pleasant public parking lot with a total of 88 parking spaces, including 85 general parking spaces and 3 spaces for the disabled.
Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “We will continue to listen to voices from the field and promptly implement improvements where needed. For issues requiring time and procedures, we will quickly prepare solutions to maximize proactive administration centered on residents.”
