Seongdong-gu Operates 'Visiting Pet Dog Home Class'

Recruiting 80 Households, Experts Visit Households with Problematic Dogs for 1:1 Behavior Correction Training... Helping Build Proper Relationships Between Pets and Owners Through Theory and Practical Education Tailored to Dog Characteristics

Seongdong-gu Operates 'Visiting Pet Dog Home Class'

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) will operate the ‘Visiting Dog Home Class’ from May to November to foster a proper pet care culture.

This program involves experts visiting households with dogs exhibiting problem behaviors such as separation anxiety and aggression to provide one-on-one behavior correction training. Each month, 11 households will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, with a total of 80 households recruited.

Selected households will undergo a phone consultation with an animal behavior specialist, who will then visit each home to conduct the training. The education is divided into two sessions (first session 90 minutes, second session 60 minutes). The first session includes understanding the dog’s temperament and living environment, ▲ analysis of problem behavior types ▲ correction of dog problem behaviors ▲ basic pet etiquette education, combining theory and practical correction exercises.

The second session supports owners in continuously training their dogs by assessing behavioral changes after the first session and following up on training tasks.

While the training is most effective when conducted at the dog’s living place (such as the owner’s home), if home training is not preferred, it is also possible to attend the training at a professional dog training center (Bauraum). Further details can be found on the Seongdong-gu Office website under News.

Additionally, Seongdong-gu operates the ‘Seongdong-gu Dog Together Center’ website, which provides educational videos necessary for pet care and offers expert online consultations. Households that need behavior correction but find it difficult to allocate time for training are strongly encouraged to use the ‘e-Consultation Room.’

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "I hope this training will help establish a proper relationship between pets and their owners," adding, "We will continue to prepare various educational programs to establish an advanced pet culture in Seongdong-gu."
