Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Wono) will increase parking spaces by about 400 this year through the '2024 Parking Environment Improvement Project' to alleviate parking difficulties.

On the 22nd of last month, the district signed agreements to open affiliated parking lots with Seongsu-dong Galleria Fore shopping mall, Seoul Forest SKV1 Tower, Muhak Elementary School, and Milgak Simindang, sharing a total of 84 parking spaces with residents.

The participating facilities cooperate with the local community by allowing residents to use parking facilities at rates cheaper than market prices, in exchange for receiving support funds for parking lot facility improvement construction.

In August this year, about 140 parking spaces will be added in the Sagun-dong area, where parking difficulties are severe. Hanyang University will open a total of 37 parking spaces to local residents upon completion of the construction of the 7th dormitory. Salgoti Public Parking Lot will increase the number of parking spaces from the existing 102 to over 200 through expansion via improvement construction.

Additionally, since the beginning of the year, the district has explored various locations within the jurisdiction and discovered 142 hidden parking spaces in Seongsu-dong, Yongdap-dong, Geumho-dong, and Eungbong-dong. Last month, new sections were created within public parking lots and additional resident-priority parking spaces were allocated to residents.

The Geumho 1-ga-dong public parking lot, scheduled for completion this month, will expand a total of 33 parking spaces. Reflecting residents' opinions gathered through a residents' briefing session, rapid electric vehicle charging facilities will also be installed.

Mayor Jeong Wono stated, “This parking sharing system will be a good example of pursuing sustainable development in cooperation with the local community,” and added, “We will make further efforts to contribute to the coexistence and development of the local community and provide convenience to residents.”
