Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province has decided to propose the construction of a new railway connecting major semiconductor hub areas such as Hwaseong, Yongin, and Icheon to the government.
Hwaseong City announced on the 1st that it held the "Hwaseong City Railway Network Basic Plan Final Report Meeting" at the city hall situation room on the 30th of last month to discuss this plan. This project aims to establish a mid- to long-term railway network plan that aligns with Hwaseong City's future vision, population size, and geographical characteristics ahead of its launch as a special city next year.
Based on the project results, the city plans to propose the following new projects to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's "5th National Railway Network Construction Plan": ▲ Gyeonggi Southern East-West Line (Hwaseong~Yongin~Icheon) ▲ Extension of the Sinansan Line to Songsan Green City (Hanyang University~Songsan Green City) ▲ Extension of the Shinbundang Line to Ujeong. Additionally, the city intends to pursue two long-term projects to establish new stations within its jurisdiction on the Seohae Line and the Gyeongbu High-Speed Line.
Vice Mayor Son said, "Hwaseong City has significantly insufficient railway infrastructure relative to its urban scale, and it is urgent to establish an efficient railway system linking existing and new lines. We will do our best to ensure that the railway projects envisioned through this study are successfully implemented."
