37 Euthanized Animals at Milyang-si Commissioned Animal Protection Center
A suspicion has arisen that an animal protection center in the Miryang area of Gyeongnam illegally euthanized dozens of abandoned dogs.
According to Miryang City on the 30th, 37 abandoned dogs were euthanized at an animal protection center commissioned by the city around 8 a.m. on the 9th.
The animal protection center posts adoption and distribution notices for 10 days after the abandoned dogs are admitted, and if no one claims them during this period, euthanasia is carried out according to procedures.

The problem is that there are signs that this center violated the Animal Protection Act during the euthanasia process. The current Animal Protection Act stipulates that when local government animal protection centers euthanize abandoned dogs, veterinarians must perform the procedure humanely by minimizing the animals' pain through anesthesia or other means. However, the veterinarian at the center is suspected of carrying out euthanasia without anesthetizing the targeted abandoned dogs and in front of other animals.
On the day, the animal protection organization 'Beagle Rescue Network' stated through social media (SNS), "Under the Animal Protection Act, 'causing death in front of other animals' is strictly prohibited as animal abuse," and urged, "Miryang City should immediately terminate the consignment contract, convert the animal protection center to direct management, and disclose the operation records of the animal protection center, including records of drugs used for euthanasia."
A city official said, "The center explained that they covered the dogs with blankets so that other abandoned dogs would not see the moment of death, but there were shortcomings," and added, "The veterinarian apologized at a meeting with the animal protection organization the day before regarding the lack of anesthesia and related issues."
The city plans to conduct a fact-finding investigation targeting the animal protection center.
