"Safely Protecting Ulleung"... Ulleung-gun's On-site Landslide Prevention Education

Due to recent climate change, localized heavy rains have been occurring continuously, and the frequency of landslide damage in mountainous areas is also increasing. To prepare for landslides, Ulleung-gun implemented the '2024 Visiting Landslide Prevention Education' on the 30th.

"Safely Protecting Ulleung"... Ulleung-gun's On-site Landslide Prevention Education Ulleung-gun conducted the "2024 On-site Landslide Prevention Education."

About 60 participants, including residents in landslide-prone areas, forest job workers, and related officials, took part in this education, reaffirming their commitment to protecting not only the lives and property of residents but also the forest resources that have been well maintained so far.

Although it is difficult to prevent natural disasters such as landslides, if residents foresee them in advance and pay attention to vulnerable areas near mountains or residential areas and learn the response guidelines, damage can be minimized when landslides occur.

Accordingly, Ulleung-gun will operate a landslide field prevention team from May to October 2024, conducting a full survey of 43 landslide-prone sites, checking 30 shelters, and inspecting the residents' emergency contact network.

In addition, to make the best efforts to prevent human casualties, they plan to check the duties of evacuation officers and conduct landslide disaster evacuation drills.

Nam Han-kwon, the county governor, said, “We will do our best to actively prepare in advance for various disasters such as forest fires and landslides and to protect Ulleung’s precious forests, which feature unique primeval forest vegetation and various rare plants.”
